National Bike to Work Week: Top Three Reasons to Ride

By Farrell Clancy | 05/10/2011

Did you know? National Bike to Work Week kicks off on Monday, May 16th, in celebration of National Bike Month. The League of American Bicyclists is dedicated to promoting cycling and safe bicycling and raising awareness about the benefits of doing so during the month of May, and has a plethora of valuable resources if you want to give it a try. For example, you can check out events near you; find local resources (bike clubs/shops, cycling instruction and more); or donate to protect the rights of cyclists.

Excuses aside, here are the top three reasons to ride:

3 - De-stress. How do you normally spend your morning commute? Sitting on the highway, barely inching along during rush hour traffic? How relaxing is THAT? Why not hop on a bike, breathe in the fresh air, admire the beauty of nature and get a workout in to boot?! You'll arrive to your cube energized and ready to tackle the day.

2 - Improve your carbon footprint. Even if only for one day or one week, every little bit counts. More bikes on the road=less cars on the road=less pollution=improved air quality.

1 - Save money. Have you SEEN gas prices lately?! 'Nuff said.

Not only does the League of American Bicyclists promote safe cycling, they reward it too! In fact, MS Govern customer, the City of Minneapolis, MN recently received the League's gold-level "bicycle friendly community designation." But they're not the only ones! Several other MS Govern customers also received recognition from the league, including.

  • Flagstaff, AZ
  • Mesa, AZ
  • Arvada, CO
  • Durango, CO
  • Juneau, AK
  • Shawnee, KS

We'd like to also send a shout out to:
